Collège Jean de la Mennais, located in La Prairie, is a French-language private school welcoming approximately 1,700 elementary and secondary students. It is recognized for its green setting, extensive sports facilities, and an educational project focused on achievement and engagement. The school complex spans more than 47,000 m² across the 18 wings that make up the college.
Challenges and objectives
Collège Jean de la Mennais wanted to place sustainable development at the heart of its approach in modernizing its electromechanical systems. With this mandate in mind, E’nergys developed an energy-efficiency and asset-maintenance project covering the boiler room, ventilation, centralized controls and the building’s lighting.
In this context, E’nergys was invited to propose a boiler-room modernization project designed to maximize energy savings and decarbonize heat production.
Following this first phase, the College leveraged E’nergys expertise by giving them the mandate to add several general ventilation systems in its classrooms and modernize its electrical service entrance.
With the participation of SOFIAC (Société de financement et d’accompagnement en performance énergétique), the project was completed without any capital injection from the College.
Objectives:
- Replace electromechanical equipment at the end of its service life
- Reduce GHG emissions by at least 50%
- Rethink heat production to reduce energy costs
Our solution
- LED lighting conversion
- Modernization and optimization of the Sports Complex ventilation
- Modernization and optimization of the boiler room
- Implementation of an air-source heat loop
- Retro-commissioning of mechanical systems (RCx)
- Addition of ventilation systems in classrooms
- Modernization of the main electrical service entrance

Results achieved
Reduction in energy costs and GHG emissions
The project reduced the College’s overall energy costs and cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 55%.
Simplified operations
The modernization of the electromechanical systems and the addition of centralized controls enable simplified operation of the energy systems.
User comfort and well-being
The project resulted in a modernized building that is brighter, more pleasant and healthier for its users
